Because a lot of people asked me how I make things transparent I decided to make a small tutorial. I hope everybody can understand it.
The programm I use is called GIMP 2.8.0. You can get it for free. Just google it and download it.
After you downloaded it, open GIMP
This screen will pop up. That’s your starting screen.
then, you need to open the picture you want to make transparent
After your pic is open you need to add an Alpha Chanel
Layer> Transparency> Add Alpha Chanel
An Alpha Chanel is nothing more than just a Transparent Background.
Now you need to get your selection tool.I always use the Free Selection Tool. It’s really easy to use. You just need to click at the edges of the part of the pic that you want to make transparent. You will see little circles, they show you where you have put your selection points.
Now you can zoom in your pic as far as you want to by holding CTRL (STRG) and scrolling at the same time.
When you have zoomed in close enough to see the edges of whatever you want to make transparent, you can start putting the selection points. When you are done you can zoom out again to see what you’ve done. Now you need to put the selection points around the pic. (!! Do not connect the first and the last selection points!!) After you put the selection points around the pic you can zoom in again (CTRL + wheel ).Now you can connect the first and the last selection point. The white line will turn in a moving black and white line now.Zoom out to see how it looks. Now you need to press CTRL (STRG) and X at the same time. You’ll remove everything what you selected (what you wanted to be gone) and it will turn in a Alpha Channel. There will be a little part whats not transparent, so we will remove that too in the same way as we did before. Now we need to export our edited picture. File> Export. Do not forget to rename your new pic and save it as PNG.
I hope I could help.
